Have you ever been working on a clip in Premiere, only to realize that you can’t duplicate or move audio without moving the whole clip with it? It’s because Premiere locks a video track to its associated audio by default, and there’s an easy way to fix it.
Here’s what we have by default, two video tracks with their audio corresponding. For the purposes of this tutorial, I want to offset the audio of the first track by a few seconds and duplicate it.
Here’s what it looks like normally.
If I tried to simply grab that audio and move it, the video would go along with it, and if I were to duplicate it, it would do the same thing. Luckily, Premiere has a really easy fix for that. Just right click on the clip you want to modify and a context menu will come up. Then click “Unlink”.

And there you have it, you can move video and audio separately and freely!
