Bing Top Searches for 2012: Kardashians, Elections and Honey Boo Boo

Between the Olympics, Hurricane Sandy and the elections, Americans shared a lot of common ground this year but it’s not just the big stories that everyone talking. . . or rather, searching.

Bing has just released their lists of the most searched terms in 2012 and it’s a little frightening.

Most-Searched Person

  1. Kim Kardashian
  2. Justin Bieber
  3. Miley Cyrus
  4. Rihanna
  5. Lindsay Lohan

I still don’t know what Kim Kardshian does to deserve so much attention, but she’s staying strong at the top of the list. Justin Bieber I get and Rihanna. Then we have Miley and Lindsay both landing on the list because of their troubles not their talent.

Most-Searched Social Networks

  1. Facebook
  2. Twitter
  3. MySpace
  4. LinkedIn
  5. Tumblr

What’s interesting here is how MySpace was the third most searched social networks but still fell short of the big comeback they promised. Prominently missing – Pinterest. I would have expected to see that in the number five slot instead of Tumblr.

Most-Searched Consumer Electronics

  1. iPhone 5
  2. iPad
  3. Samsung Galaxy S III/Samsung Galaxy S3
  4. Kindle
  5. iPad 3

No surprises here. Apple products rule when it comes to creating hoopla!

Most-Searched News Stories

  1. iPhone 5
  2. 2012 Election
  3. 2012 Olympics
  4. Hurricane Sandy
  5. Honey Boo Boo Reality Show

The iPhone also made it to the top of the “news” chart, beating out the elections and the Olympics. Hurricane Sandy – check. Now, can we talk about how Honey Boo Boo landed in the number 5 spot on the Most-Searched News Story list? I’m appalled and surprised. Her show didn’t make the Most-Searched TV list, so obviously people weren’t interested in watching. What they wanted was to follow the controversy as this little redneck miss and her family got a $15,000 an episode raise from TLC.

Other top search terms include The Avengers, Magic Mike and Titanic (?) on the movie list. American Idol and Walking Dead on the TV list. “Gangnum Style” and “Call Me Maybe” on the music list. On a high note, the Hollywood gossip list belonged almost exclusively the to birth of celebrity babies.

You can see all the lists on Bing’s 2012 Interactive Slide Show.

What was on your Most-Searched list for 2012?
