Not long ago, I wrote a post asking if you thought Facebook was reducing page updates in the news feed on purpose to drive up sales with their promoted posts. Well, if that was the plan, they’re backtracking now with a complete shift in the other direction.
Check your Facebook sidebar today and you may find a link that says Pages Feed. Click it and your page will be transformed from a long list of family greetings and funny pics to a stream of branded content.
Nice move, Facebook.
When I checked out my feed, right away I noticed two things.
First, I realized that hardly anybody posts to Facebook without a picture anymore. I’m not talking about brands, I’m talking everybody. Between uploaded graphics and the thumbnails that come with posting via a link from another site, there’s a lot to look at. And it’s making my news feed way too long.
Second, I realized how many branded posts I’ve been missing from the pages I follow. For example, that Regal Cinemas post about The Host you see here is NOT in my regular news feed but it showed up at the top of my new Page Feed. There’s yet another new post on Regal, the concession coupon for this weekend, that didn’t show up on either feed.
In other words, Facebook is still moderating what I see.
For this, they get a small golf clap. I really like the option of seeing just my page posts, but I want to see ALL my posts. I’m a big girl and I don’t need Facebook filtering them for my own good. And while you’re at it, are we getting a Friends Feed option, to filter out all the Page posts? Oh man, I can already hear the marketers complaining about that!
What do you think? Happy new from Facebook or not so much?
