Making a Machinima Part 4: Putting it all together

Your video better look much cooler than this -- video game graphics have come a long way in just a few years.

Your video better look much cooler than this — video game graphics have come a long way in just a few years.

When editing a machinima, I prefer to use Windows Movie Maker for its simplicity. It’s free and comes installed on most newer PCs. Depending on if you are going for drama or comedy, you’ll probably be using mostly hard cuts. And with WMM, syncing audio and video is a breeze if you like lots of trial and error to get the perfect clip.

I recommend using the title screen option to break up the monotony of the in-game footage. You can add captions, pictures and background colors to entertain your reader. And make sure you add a credits screen at the end of your video – you’ll be so proud to show it off that I’m sure you won’t forget.

Once you’ve played around with syncing audio, video and photos and are satisfied with your project, you’ll need to save it as a compatible file – I prefer mp4. This will take a LONG time. Be prepared to wait for it to save for about an hour. To add it to your website, simply use the <video> tag and add the dimensions you want the screen to be.

And don’t hesitate to put your video on a website like YouTube – maybe you can be the next Leeroy Jenkins.

For the Noobs!
