Foursquare Gives Business Owners a Management App

This is a nice touch from Foursquare, I think. They’ve created a mobile app that business owners can use to help manage their Foursquare listing.

The app is available for both iPhone and Android devices, and is obviously meant to appeal to business owners that don’t have time to sit at a computer and keep an eye on Foursquare activity, post specials, etc.

With the Foursquare for Business companion app, managers can create a Foursquare update and easily cross-post it to Facebook and Twitter at the same time. They can also use the app to see recent check-ins, turn specials on and off, and look at business data.

I don’t manage a Foursquare business listing, so can’t speak for the quality or value provided by this app. I do think it’s a Good Thing for Foursquare to offer, though, provided there’s enough functionality built in to make it worthwhile. The screenshot that Foursquare included with its blog post only shows tools that match the description above:

Facebook also offers business owners a Page Manager mobile app that I’m awfully impressed with. I can write status updates, upload photos, see insights (basic analytics) for all of my Page’s posts and more. And, as someone who manages several Facebook Pages, I like how easy it is to switch from one Page to another.

Here’s hoping more services/products follow this lead and give small business owners some functional mobile tools to make it more convenient to manage their online presences.

This is a post from Matt McGee's blog, Small Business Search Marketing.
