Color Adjustments in Photoshop

There are several ways to play with colors. If you want to play around with specific colors in parts of your photos, you may want to check out the Sponge tool:

You can select Saturate or Desaturate at the top of the window:

If you want the colors to be more vibrant, choose Saturate. If you want to mute the colors, use Desaturate. You can also choose the Flow percentage, which will heighten the tool’s effectiveness.

For example, if you use saturate, you can go from this:

To this:

Or, if you want to mute the colors, or turn something from color to Black and White, it will look like this:

Now, you can also use the Burn and Dodge tools to change the exposure. Burn allows more light, as if burning the photo under the light:

The Dodge tool will lighten the photo, as if it was blocked from the light source:

These are great tools to use if you want to play with just one part of the photo. Otherwise, you should use the Brightness/Contrast controls under Images > Adjustments:

This will control the entire photo:

(This has both Brightness and Contrast turned up)

Now you can play around with both specific parts and your entire photo!
